Water molecules have no choice other than to remain in perfect alignment with the incredible intentions and designs of the universe. They are a constant expression of absolute perfection as they move from state to state (gas, liquid, and ice) with the ease, fluidity, and grace of perfect enlightenment.

Humans on the other hand have power of mind and with power of mind comes power of choice. We can choose to resist and to violate the incredible intentions and designs of the universe (or, insert your favorite label here).

If our minds are not capable of satisfying the questions "Where do we come from?" and "What is our purpose?", at least through experience we can still celebrate the fact that we are already an expression of the ultimate truth that we seek, and that the more we align ourselves with the incredible intentions and designs of the universe, the more we will become an enlightened expression of greatness itself.

While it's true that the mind can be the root of great suffering, it can also be used to cultivate a deep appreciation for existence itself. Water, with its perfect existence and lack of mind has no sense of its greater self. It is through the power of mind that the universe can know and appreciate itself.

Perhaps this is our primary purpose, to use the power of mind to know and to appreciate our greater selves. It is true that there are many paths in life, but as long as our paths include a deep sense of appreciation we can experience greatness wherever life takes us!
